Finally Something Good

Over the past week many people in the Southern California are including the San Diego Charges has to evacuate their homes to major wildfires (http://sports.aol.com/story/_a/lt-other-chargers-padres-among-wildfire/n20071022190609990015). Due to the overwhelming amount of people having to evacuate their homes the NFL and the San Diego Charges have really have tried to lend a helping hand. In spite of all the negativity surrounding sports, although the wildfires are terrible, it is really great to here some positive things. For one the San Diego Chargers opened up Qualcom Stadium so that 15.000 evacuees could stay there even though the Charges have a home game t this upcoming week against the Houston Texans. Another good deed was that the Arizona Cardinals let the San Diego Chargers use their facilities so that the Charges could practice and prepare for the upcoming game. I really would like to applaud the NFL for their participation and the way they are handling this situation. Although this comes from a negative event, it is really good to here something positive. I for one am happy because I am tired of the negativity surrounding sports. I know the media leans toward negativity most of the time, but here the media should be praising the NFL. In the end I really hope this turns out to be the turning point in the NFL and even all of professional sports. Look how New Orleans bonded this country and sports together. Hopefully it could happen again and resume the once impossible positive path.

I completely agree with you Bloom. I think it is very admirable what the San Diego Chargers are doing, lending their stadium to people displaced by the Fires in Southern California. They didn't have to do this, but they knew that in their minds, that this was the right thing to do. Seeing a positive story in the Sports world seems harder and harder to come by, but reading a story like this really makes me realize that there is still some good out there in the world. It does draw a lot of comparisons to the New Orleans situation and I could only hope that the people taking refuge in the Chargers Stadium appreciate what the NFL is doing for them.

I am in total agreement too. Wen I heard that the Chargers were still going to play even with the wildfires going on, I applauded the Chargers. This is where sports do more for the community than give you something to watch on TV. It's times like these, where the community may be going through a crisis, sports give people hope and that's always a good thing. The New Orleans example is another good one. That really brought the nation together.

I agree with you on this post Bloom. It is sad that it takes such a horrific event to get people to help out those in need, but that should be expected. How often do we see people come together after some type of tragic event? In this particular situation there is really nothing bed to say because of the fact that the Chargers are being so caring to the people that come out and cheer for them every weekend. This is very reminiscent of how the people of New Orleans used to Superdome for shelter during hurricane Katrina, hopefully the results of the fires aren’t as devastating.
